The construction of this magnificent carmen at the end of the nineteenth century coincided with a brilliant flowering of Spanish culture, the so-called Edad de Plata, an exuberant outburst of creative energy when artists, writers, poets, philosophers, architects and intellectuals threw out old ideas and reinvented their art.

It is not just the house that benefited from this exciting revision of the past but the gardens too. Designed at that time, with a nodding gratitude to formal Moorish antecedents, they have changed very little. There are countless paths to walk and numerous shady areas to which to retire and dream. No-one in the world can know you're there. The garden is completely private. And yet you are five minutes walk from the centre of of Granada, Lorca's city, replete with vibrant cultural life and an outdoor, blue-sky, life style.

The house provides generous accommodation with up to six bedrooms and has been structurally renovated in recent years. Although perfectly habitable it would benefit from some internal renovation and modernisation to bring it up to date.

Within the grounds, and with its own entrance to the street, there is a totally renovated and self-contained second house, useful for a dependent relative, for guests or for a gardener to look after the house when the proprietor is away.

So seldom do carmens of this quality come onto the market (there are only a handful of them) that this represents not just a magical space in which to spend time but also a wonderful investment.  

The whole of the Albayzin enjoys the same World Heritage Site status as, for example, the Alhambra, Stonehenge or Aachen Cathedral. Further changes to the area will never be allowed. Added to this the carmen is catalogued at Level 3 Grade 1, one of the highest gradings.

The house has mains electricity, water and telephone. There is a gas pipeline running through the street outside and it would be a straightforward operation to install gas central heating.

The self-contained house also benefits from the same services but has, additionally, air conditioning and electric heating.

In a quiet street in the heart of the old Albayzín. There is car access to the door and parking nearby.
