Historic castle building in need of complete renovation. Huge potential for boutique hotel, upmarket B & B, retreat centre etc. linked to the waters for which Alhama is famous. Part of the buildings, which date from the early 20th century, are structurally sound but in need of repair and part needs demolishing and rebuilding. The property has gardens at a level substantially above that of the street with views out over attractive urban landscape to the gorge and farmland beyond. Because the property is so large there is ample scope to open a hotel with private patio and garden areas and a restaurant open to the public with its own exclusive garden areas. The existing castle was built over the remains of a Moorish castle dating, possibly, from the 15th century or earlier. These initial buildings dated from the 19th Century, although much of what now exists dates from around 1920. There are interesting original elements from this time in good condition such as the hydraulic tiled floors. However, much of the remaining sections of the buildings are in very poor condition and need to be completely rebuilt. The bulk of the castle buildings are arranged around an attractive columned patio, although there are a number of annexes and a small tower building at one corner of the crenellated walls. This property represents a great opportunity to establish a hotel and restaurant, a boutique style bed and breakfast or a retreat centre offering relaxation, massage etc., all linked to the waters for which Alhama is famous and which have been known since Roman times. The views from the property are extensive and beautiful over the church to the countryside beyond and the famous gorge which has been declared a site of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Services The property is urban and all services are available. Location Alhama is one of the most historic towns in Granada province and lies within easy reach of Granada itself and the coast via the A92 motorway. A fast new road, part of which is still under construction, links Alhama to the motorway.
