Set high above Granada's historic Realejo, this beautifully cared-for carmen is a particularly individual home, filled with natural light and opening onto a succession of terraces with far-reaching views across the neighbourhood and towards the Sierra Nevada. The home of an artist, the property has been thoughtfully designed and maintained with great attention to detail. Large windows and extensive glazing are a defining feature, bringing light into the house from different directions and creating a constant visual connection between the interior, the terraces and the views beyond.
The House
The house is arranged over several levels, with terraces and outdoor spaces forming an integral part of its layout. The interiors feel remarkably open and bright. Generous windows, glazed openings and doors onto the terraces allow natural light to travel through the house throughout the day, while framing changing views over the rooftops and surrounding landscape. There is a strong sense of personality throughout. This is clearly a much-loved home that has been carefully maintained and created with considerable taste, with individual details and finishes reflecting its history as an artist's house.
Bedrooms & Views
There are currently three bedrooms, with the possibility of creating a fourth if required. One of the most appealing bedrooms occupies the second floor and has its own private bathroom and terrace. From here, the views extend across the rooftops of the Realejo, with the Sierra Nevada rising in the distance. The elevated position, abundance of natural light and direct access to outdoor space give this part of the house a particularly peaceful and open atmosphere.
Terraces & Artist's Studio
Outdoor living is one of the defining features of the property. Numerous terraces at different levels provide a variety of places to sit, dine, work or simply enjoy the views and Granada's climate. On the largest terrace is an independent artist's studio. Separate from the main living areas, this is a wonderful additional space for painting and other creative work, but could equally make an inspiring home office or workspace. The combination of terraces, extensive glazing and views creates an unusually strong connection between the house and its surroundings, with outdoor space becoming a natural extension of the interior.
A Home with Individual Character
What particularly distinguishes this property is the care and thought that have gone into it over the years. Rather than a conventional renovation, it feels like a genuinely personal home in which the spaces, materials, light and views have all played an important part. Its artistic character is present without being overwhelming, resulting in a house that feels warm, distinctive and comfortable. There is also a very good relationship between the neighbouring properties, contributing to the pleasant atmosphere of this residential setting.
Access & Practical Considerations
As is often the case with properties in the historic upper parts of Granada, access is one point buyers should be aware of. The house does not have a private garage and access by car is difficult. The current owner has nevertheless regularly reached the property using a suitable four-wheel-drive vehicle, so vehicular access is possible with an appropriate car, although this is not a property we would recommend to buyers for whom everyday car access is essential.
Realejo & Granada
Realejo is one of Granada's oldest and most characterful neighbourhoods, climbing from the city centre towards the Alhambra and the surrounding hills. Its historic streets combine traditional houses and carmenes with small squares, cafés, restaurants and local shops, while the centre of Granada remains within easy walking distance. The property's elevated position is a particular advantage, providing the light, openness and expansive views that can be difficult to find in the denser streets below. Looking out across the Realejo towards the Sierra Nevada, the house feels surprisingly removed from the city while remaining part of one of Granada's most distinctive historic neighbourhoods.
