Description

Restored Country Cortijo with Panoramic Views between Granada and Málaga

Set on approximately 12,800 m² of land — half of which is planted with olive groves — this beautifully renovated and substantial country house enjoys far-reaching views over rolling hills of olives, almonds, oak and pine. Positioned roughly midway between Granada and Malaga, the property combines rural privacy with convenient access to both cities.

Originally a crumbling farmhouse, the house has been completely rebuilt, extended and restored into a spacious five-bedroom home of character and comfort, incorporating modern amenities alongside traditional Andalusian features.

Layout & Living Spaces

Entrance is through an external courtyard centred around a magnificent oak tree. Traditional double wooden doors lead into an internal tiled courtyard with a decorative pillar fountain — the true heart of the house. From here, doors and stairways connect to the various wings.

The main open-plan living area forms the hub of the home, thoughtfully divided into spaces for reading, games, television, dining and cooking.

The kitchen is modern, bright and well equipped with electric oven, five-ring gas hob, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. A walk-in larder with second freezer adds practicality, while a central island with stools creates a breakfast bar. A large glass dining table seats eight to ten comfortably.

The living area features two generous sofas, a glass-fronted fireplace and French windows opening onto a terrace with wide countryside views.

Ground Floor Bedrooms

Two bedrooms are accessed from the living room:

  • A twin bedroom with en-suite shower room

  • A double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and access to a private terrace

These rooms interconnect, making them ideal for families, yet they can also function independently when the internal door is closed.

Also on this level is a combined guest WC and laundry room, accessible from both the dining area and the pool terrace.

Master Suite & Upper Level

Stairs from the living room lead to the master bedroom — a large, light-filled space with high ceilings, terracotta floors and whitewashed walls. The en-suite bathroom includes a walk-in shower and a freestanding claw-foot bath.

From the master suite, doors open onto two terraces:

  • A smaller terrace overlooking the stone threshing circle

  • A large sun terrace with loungers and expansive views across hills and mountains

A rear staircase from this terrace leads directly to the pool area.

From the central courtyard, a metal stair and walkway access what remains of the original farmhouse, now converted into two further bedrooms:

  • A double bedroom with access to the threshing circle

  • A long bedroom with vaulted ceiling, king-size bed and Juliet balcony

These two rooms share a spacious shower room.

Outdoor Living & Leisure Areas

Large glass doors from the kitchen open onto the pool terrace. The outdoor areas are particularly well designed and include:

  • Large swimming pool

  • Moroccan-style majlis with fountain beneath a mature carob tree

  • Wide covered porch running along the house

  • Long tiled dining table and seating area

  • Additional covered dining space on the far side of the pool

  • Outdoor kitchen with built-in barbecue

Separate from the main house is a generous external games room beside the threshing circle, equipped with pool table, small bar and private gym equipment.

The property also benefits from its own well, suitable for garden irrigation.

Second Property Opportunity

In addition to the main house, the owners possess a second adjoining property comprising a ruin with outline planning consent already granted. The plot borders the main estate but is positioned higher on the hill, ensuring complete privacy between the two. It is possible to acquire both properties together, offering further development potential.

Location & Surroundings

Zagra is a small, traditional Andalusian town known for its peaceful atmosphere and strong agricultural roots, particularly olive cultivation. It offers essential everyday amenities including small shops, a bakery, bars and a health centre. The town has a friendly, close-knit community and hosts local fiestas and cultural events throughout the year.

For broader services, nearby larger towns provide supermarkets, banks, schools and additional medical facilities. Granada city offers high-speed rail links, universities, international schools and a rich cultural life, while Málaga provides international flight connections and coastal leisure opportunities.

The surrounding countryside is characterised by olive groves, gentle hills and open skies, offering a quiet and authentic rural setting with excellent walking routes and unspoilt views.
